Boulders Resort
Scottsdale, AZ
The Boulders Resort (Curio Collection by Hilton) has two award winning golf courses and was just named the best golf resort in the Southwest by Golf Digest. Does the hotel need further arguments? Okay: The rest is also very nice. The pools, the restaurants and the rooms are just right. At least I think so. I was mainly playing golf. September room rates for casitas start at around $400. In the high season it should be significantly more expensive.

C Lazy U Ranch
Granby, CO
A ranch on a golf website? Makes sense, at least in my life. My wife is an avid horse rider. When she's happy, so am I: Unlimited Golf! Admittedly, this really posh dude ranch with more than 180 own horses is more for horse fans, but I still felt comfortable. Because the facility is just really perfect, and because Pole Creek Golf Club is not far away either. The prices per night and room are in the four figures, even in the off-season. In return, full board, the entire riding program and a very happy wife are included.

Inn at the Presidio
San Francisco, CA
The Inn at the Presidio found us by accident. I thought the $80 parking fee for a downtown hotel was too expensive, and here, on this historic barracks site in close proximity to the Golden Gate Bridge, it was much cheaper. What a luck. Because the hotel is really stunning. Rooms, lounges, breakfast: everything was great! Instead of golf, you might stroll through Presidio Park and marvel at Andy Goldsworthy's natural art. No starting time needed. Rooms start at around $330. The Golden Gate view from our restroom was for free.

The Lowell
New York City, NY
Located at 63rd Street East, the super luxurious Lowell Hotel fits in perfectly with the illustrious neighborhood. The house belongs to the Leading Hotels and we had the privilege as members to spend a free night there. The program has been changed in the meantime, and so we only have the memory of this New York hotel dream with all its fireplaces and flowers. Sigh. Room rates are more than $900, even in the most basic category. "If I can pay it there, I'll pay it everywhere, its up to you New York, New York."

Sentinel
Portland, OR
Of course, the Sentinel in downtown Portland is not a golf hotel either, but because we liked it there, like in Portland in general, I'm happy to include it here. I also associate the house with a small connection to golf. On the way we have previously stopped at Bandon Dunes. But because the green fee was too high for me, I didn't play there. Sometimes it still wakes me up at night because of it. Room prices for this 1909 hotel icon should start at around $200. Cheaper than a round of golf at Bandon Dunes.

Westin La Paloma
Tucson, AZ
The Westin La Paloma wouldn't exactly be my first choice, but in the combination of an okay hotel and a good golf course in the immediate vicinity, it has its qualities. Especially since the La Paloma Country Club would otherwise have kept its gates closed. Private. Room rates in August start at around $180 but jump to over $400 from September

White Stallion Ranch
Tucson, AZ
Another ranch. And what a perfect one. Pure cowboy feeling. Horseback riding through the prairie, herding cows and sitting in the saloon in the evening. Everything a heart desires. At least that of my wife. For me, there were double digit golf courses within an hour's drive. Including the two former PGA Tour stops, Starr Pass and Dove Mountain. We will be back. All-inclusive rates (food and all the riding) for a really nice casita with outdoor fire place in September start at around $400 plus resort tax. Rattlesnakes and tarantulas present but not included.
