I've been sneaking around the Caledonian for years and couldn't bring myself to pay the rather high price of an overnight stay. I finally did and was very pleased. The location at the start of Princess Street is spectacular and the facilities, breakfast and all the staff are truly spectacular too. Whether you want to pay the extra for a room with a view of Edinburgh Castle is up to you. I didn't and had a wonderfully quiet room as a result.
