Grantown on Spey

The club’s first six holes are as flat as the disc that some misguided people claim our Earth might be. This makes for a pleasant start for players who like to head to the driving range before their round, something which is often missing at Scottish clubs. (There is, however, a net.) From the seventh hole, the course heads into the woods, and that’s where the fun begins. The sequence of holes up to the 13th is extremely varied, with plenty of ups and downs. For me, this is clearly the highlight of the course. From the 14th hole, the course opens out into more open terrain once again. This is not bad either, but it is not quite as picturesque as the previous holes. The best hole is the 9th. It's a par three where you tee off from an elevated tee with a view of the Highlands, hitting down into a hollow. Picturesque!
